Do you think America would form one Mixed Race like Italy did?

I was just wondering if America say like a couple of hundred of years down the road will be a one mixed raced kind of like Italy. The Roman Empire used to force conquered peoples and races back to their own land to populate it and for slavery. There were so many ethnic groups there and over time they came to form the Itallian race. Immigration is slowly being halted and its projected to be at 100,000 a year by 2045. Do you guys think that the three main races (Hispanic, Caucasion, and Black) will over time envuatlly mix and form one race because that is how a lot of groups were formed. We obviously won't be alive for it but ur families generations down the road could be. I was just wondering because a lot of people are projecting America to be one race a couple hundred years down the road if immigration is halted. What do you think?

Italian people are all white, from different tribes but white...America is ALREADY the most mixed race place ever...they got the largest black population and billions of mestizos and indians....with the new immigrants will Italy form one mixed race like America did would be the right question...don't even mention the roman empire first of all their "slaves" was lots less and sent all over the roman empire (hence all europe NOT just Italy...) plus do you know the tons of barbarians who killed almost all those people after the fall of the Rome empire? The only black people nowadays are the new immigrants and for sure very FAR to be 16% of the population like in the Usa. Also Uk is already very mixed.

i'm talking from personnel experience so trust me i used to be vegan at that time i had read so many "evidence" about the health benefits of a vegan diet(almost no disease, lot of energy , good for animals" i read so many theories about the vegan diet i almost became an expert i thought i would be healtier,happier etc. 6 months later after starting the vegan diet : went from muscular to as skinny as a toothpick (looked like i was about to die according to my parents) , no energy whatsoever, no sex drive, very pale skin, you could see the bones in my face, grumpy , always hungry no matter how much i ate, etc. food gurus might tell you that the vegan diet has all you need but strong evidence show that you lack: protein, calcium, vitamin a, d, and fat soluble vitamins, iron(a lot) , magnesium , essential fatty acids (only in fish omega 3 and 6 , enzymes to help with all chemical reactions in the body and many other things. many people have had serious problems with this diet i'm a guy but girls have misscarriages, their period stops, and other things (already mentioned above) i know a lot of things about nutrition and now my health is very good , i'm muscular(i have to i play basketball), always have energy , never tired , no headaches, physical ailment nothing. secret. i aonly eat natural food : a lot of meat (yes nothing satisfies your hunger better than animal food fish, poultry, chicken and it's low in calory so it helps you lose weight tremendously while cutting down on carbs wich make you gain weight ), lot of fruits, 4 cups of green tean every day, lot of water, basically an omnivorous diet but no junk food ,no sodas,no biscuits just natural foods . tribes in africa eat that way and have no diseases at all . so forget about those vegan know it alls anf follow my advice if you're fat you'll become normal ,too skinny you'll become normal as well with this diet you'll basically reach your ideal health and bodyweight.by the way i tried the raw food diet for 3 months this time i almost died. i don't wanna scare you but eat a natural, omnivorous diet .

I'm a huge Lady Gaga fan and a fan of Madonna's people keep on saying that Lady Gaga is copying off of Madonna.

How is she copying Madonna? Madonna didn't invent anything. I'm sorry if I offend any Madonna fans but I've seen several of Madonna's music videos from the 80's and nothing is similar to what Gaga is doing.

Gaga has said in several interviews that she has studied Madonna's work and is a huge influence in Gaga's career. She was inspired by Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera. She didn't copy them.

yes i have some idea's..=] i don't k,now if they are any good. well you see Italy, well you can look up venis for example, the architecture. the have urban, or well colors and such. for a shoe you can wear(light tan knee high boots with a heel or not)bottom's would include(a dark faded jean, maybe with designer holes) top(a loose dressy white shirt, with a red belt on the weist) hair, it would be nice to style it like volumized curls. People are free to do as they want, and any decrease in the consumption of animal products is helping the cause of animal welfare. Not everyone is going to be a perfect vegan, so let people do as much as they feel that they can commit to -- whether it be veganism, vegetarianism, or even just reducing the meat in their diet. My boyfriend for instance reduced his meat intake and is going to start buying free range meat. For this I am proud of him. Labels are petty, anyway.

In May I will be traveling to Europe for the first time. I have been doing extensive research in order to find the most cost effective ways to travel from city to city. In most cases I have found that a cheap flight on an airline like RyanAir has been the cheapest option, but I haven't been able to find any reasonably priced flights from Venice, Italy to Nice, France. Maybe somebody can help me find cheap flights that I'm just missing. Perhaps it's cheaper to fly in and out of nearby surrounding cities as opposed to flying directly from Venice to Nice? Or perhaps a train is the smarter travel option between these two cities? Or maybe by bus? I'm hoping somebody can offer some helpful information here. Unfortunately, there is no direct train service from Venice to Nice. The direct night train was a good and cost effective option before it was discontinued, but it has not run in a few years now. Don't be to impatient with losing weight when pregnant.
You should try and take it easy and reserve your energy. From what I've learned; trying to lose weight real fast, may hinder you.

Gaining weight from pregnancy is quite normal for any women. It can even take a 1/2 year after pregnancy for your body to return to normal. So, even if you are not breast-feeding, don't be in too much of a hurry to cut calories. looking after and being responsible for a new baby can also be very tiring.
It would be most helpful to not bother worrying about your weight for now. Just put more effort in eating the right foods and cutting out junk/harmful food.

I think people who continually fail at losing weight are looking for something that doesn't exist. They are looking for, and waiting for, a surge of mental strength and self motivation to appear out of the blue, and they think thats when their lives will change and they will lose weight. They look at people who exercise regularly and often think they have something mentally that they themselves don't. And when in reality all people who do live a healthy lifestyle, and are mentally strong, have simply realized what is really inside them. What they have that overweight and obese people (who are trying to lose weight) don't is a deep understanding of their potential. And the reason these heavy people dont have that understanding is because they have never proven it to themselves. Everything they are looking and waiting for is already in them, it just needs to be awoken. If they would just get up off of their *** and do it, they will begin to understand that potential within them.

I will complement it by saying that if they are shown their potential when very young, then they will learn about it without suffering at all and it'll just be "in them" for the rest of their lives.
So, send your kids to do sporting activities when young.

Indeed I often got overweight during my life but when it gets too much I just book into a swimming pool and swim it ALL off, and I mean ALL.
This gives me an extra 'quality' when compared to other people, I am always in "transition". I might grow fatter and fatter for a few years, then you see me growing fitter and fitter, and this time I'll be sticking to a regular swimming routine as my life is finally quite stable :)

1,000 calories a day bad?

So im trying to shift some weight, im eating healthy and only when im hungry. i also do an hour of aerobics a day to keep me motivated in this weight loss. so ive been taking not of how many calories i eat and its always around a 1000. this doesn't seem too good but neither does the im bored lets eat method. is eating 1000 calories a day bad even though im not hungry? :S

1000 calories a day is ok. most diets you can buy will give you a 1200 calories a day so you could go up to that if you wanted to. just eat helathy, lots of veg and protein (dont want those muscles wasting away or lose any hair, thats mainly protein).

However if your BMI is healthy then you don't need to lose weight. You dont say how much you weigh or your height but i cant encourage weight loss if you are already an ideal weight.

Just diagnosed diabetic. What now?

I have so many questions that aren't exactly "normal" enough to just generally search for online.

Mainly it's about food. I love to cook, so I'm trying to figure out recipes that I'd like. Unfortunately, up until now, I've been a meat, bread, and potatoes type of guy. Now that the bread and potatoes are pretty much restricted from my diet... About the only old recipe of mine that I can think of that I can still enjoy is my chili recipe. Will whole-wheat flour thicken like processed flour to make a stew or gravy?

Also, being in my mid-twenties, I certainly have a thirst for a bit more than soft drinks. Does alcohol affect blood sugar much? I know beer would, but I'm more of a liquor drinker. Mainly whiskey,

I also enjoy cigars on occasion. Once again, will this have an affect on my blood sugar?

I don't know. This diagnosis has come on the heels of some other issues and I can't help but feel a bit discouraged and confused. Any advice, recipes, etc...?

One of the first things you should do is go to a few diabetic ed. classes. Then make an appointment with a dietitian or a nutritionist. They can be teach you many, many things, and education is your best friend when it comes to having diabetes. You can still eat anything, just beware of the amount of carbs you take in. Normally, a diabetics diet should consist of no more than 45 grams of fat per meal. Meat does not have carbs, but potatoes have a lot. It's all aboiut learning to count your carbs. Yes, alcohol can effect your blood sugar a lot. It is a two fold deal. When you first drink, your blood sugar will rise because of the carbs and sugar.....then it will fall, many times too low. A diabetic can still have a drink now and again, but only if you have your disease under good control, and limit yourself to a beer or two or one mixed drink. You need to learn to stay away from white bread, white rice, white potatoes...although if you learn to count carbs you can still have a little of these. There are tons of diabetic cook books out there and many recipes on line. Be ware of things marked "sugar free" or "diabetic". They may have less sugar, but often contain more fat and carbs. Smoking can put you at higher risk of heart and artery disease when you are diabetic. Also beware of blogs...they are just peoples stories and opinions and contain a LOT of BAD advice. Make sure any website you visit on the subject is up to date...many are very outdated, and do not even apply anymore. Good luck, and have fun cooking

I have stopped growing at 5''7 and I currently weigh 265 pounds.I was never fat until around 3 years ago. when i turned 13 i weighed 137Ibs, when I turned 14 i was 139 and at 15 i was 141. during that year i became noticeably bigger and then when I turned 16, i found out i weighed 209 pounds! now almost 18 I'm more than 260 and i don't know what else to do. will it be dangerous for me to use a quick weight loss pill? please help me!!!

First you may have stopped growing, however, many of us stopped then started again!

I stopped for several years then had about a two year period of growth ending when I was 26.

Weight loss pills are NOT the answer! They give you a temporary water loss. They can be extremely dangerous though most people recover from their side effects soon after they regain the lost water.

Exercise really is the only sure way and that has to be coupled with a nutritious diet of frequent meals avoiding hunger.

Talk to your doctor about the whole issue and get advice that really takes into consoideration your current health and potential.

Ok, I've tried many times to lose weight. The season of the sport I'm in has ended recently and I've slowly noticed my weight starting to come back. I lost a lot of weight (or so it appeared) during the season. But it's slowly coming back. I really want to lose 15 pounds a month so I will hopefully be to the average weight in 5 months. I was wanting to know how to do that. Where it is so cold out to run/or walk, and I don't have a treadmill or have money to get one, what are some very effective exercises to do or should I go walk anyway? Also, is it even possible to lose 15 pounds in a month and is the most effective way to do that by cutting meals in half and filling up on water? (What are some ways to stay motivated?) I'm going to be studying abroad in Rome this coming fall (*from NY, USA) and I want to make sure that I understand the baggage allowances for Alitalia flights. I went to Italy last summer with them and I could have swore that we were allowed 2 pieces of luggage no matter what class we were in. Now, it seems that I'm only going to be allowed one piece with a max allowance of 23kg if we're in the regular seats (2 pieces if in better seats)..is this correct or am I missing something?

If I read correctly then the second bag will be $50 as long as its 23kg or below? I could have swore that we were allowed two bags last summer no matter the class so I'm just wondering if maybe I'm reading something wrong.

Furthermore - my carry on is a backpack that I plan to put my laptop in as well as my cheap speakers, mouse, & camera..will there be any problem with this?

I can not cook but I am trying to find some books to not only learn to cook but do it healthy. I am looking for realistic suggestions for people who are not really health nuts but just want a reasonable fresh ingredient diet.

One of the best ways to learn cook skills (assuming you don't live with Julia Child) is to watch the food network. Granted they don't always encourage the healthiest meals, but you will learn a lot in a short amount of time.
Of course you asked for a book. I have many, but I've found that the "Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book" (Better Homes & Gardens Plaid) (Ring-bound) is one of the best, especially for beginning cooks. It's a nice fat book and not only are the recipes, for the most part, all healthy, they are also not "way out there" rather very likable and relatively simple, with lots of skills and cooking tips.

Another really good cookbook is "The New Best Recipe" (America's Test Kitchen, 2004). Good for beginners.

dose this sound interesting? I need to write an english final and i want it to be a historical fiction about a Gladiator. In the beginning the main characters father dies in battle fighting for the roman army. Then as he grows up he wants to be just like his father and gets forced into roman army. He eventually has to decide between saving an innocent town from destruction or follow orders given to him by a jack @$$ of a general. He saves the people and in return is thrown into a prison where later he is bought as a slave to be sold. then he is sold to a rude fat gladiator school owner and is trained as a gladiator. soon he is one of the top fighters at the school and then fights in the roman Colosseum and quickly gains favor amongst the people in the audience. then he hears of an escape gladiator named Spartacus and plans an escape to join him in his army.

I'm 19 and my sister is 21, we both recently moved to LA and are renting an apartment together, we just moved out from home so it's all new to us living alone without mom or dad. But the thing is, my sister is always complaining about how I'm lazy and no good... I will admit, that I am very lazy COMPARED to her, I always have been. I sit around on my laptop or watching TV a lot BUT I have been trying but it seems like whatever I do she never acknowledges it. The last month I've been really good and helping around the house but I feel like she never notices, so what's the point?

This is what upsets me, she will cook for me, because she loves cooking and cleaning, and I can't cook as good as her anyway... and if I attempt cooking (which I do about 2 or 3 times a week) I'll say "I'm gonna cook something, do you want anything?" She'll say "No thanks, I'll make something later" and then when I'm about to eat she will say "Wow, you never cooked for me, you lazy b*tch! I do everything for you... You only care about yourself. Your so selfish! Wow... I'm telling mom!!!" This drives me crazy, because just when I was about to cook I asked if she wanted me to cook for her too. It's like she does it on purpose to make me look like the bad one so I gave up even caring. I always give her things like DVD box sets and makeup but she just never appreciates it. I always appreciate when she gives me CD's and stuff. And everytime she does something wrong, I feel like the first person she blames is me.

Is there anything a parent can do for a child that is grown, on their own and living their own life if they have a eating disorder?
I've tried talking to my daughter, but all I get is negative feed back. She's a single mom, loves to party, party, party, and eat eat eat!
It's almost like she places the blame on me for her actions. It also scares me that she tries eveerything new that comes to the shelves on weight loss. She takes the pills or whatever, and still doesn't follow the instructions about the eating that comes with the so called diet.
I try so hard to have a possitive relationship with her, but all I feel is "hatred". AM I responsible for her eating?

My wife is going in for oral surgery to remove most of her teeth. Due to years of diabetes, lack of dental care prior to my getting involved, and a dentist who did several root canals that ended up being extracted...she has finally decided to take on this drastic action..

Needless to say she is scared to death about this. It doesn't help that she is clueless about what to do after they are removed, and until she gets fitted with braces.

Would greatly appreciate to hear the experiences of people who went through the same thing. How did you get by? Any good ideas for a soft diet? Recipe ideas? Remember that she has diabetes and this is only going to complicate matters.

Whoa..question...If your wife is a sever Diabetic to the point she is loosing most of her teeth, why in the world are "braces" of any kind being considered given her diabetic issue?...IF on the other hand you don't mean braces but instead mean Partial Dentures, that's a whole different situation. Tell you what, I'm adding to this response a couple of pages from my instructions I give my patients. If they don't cover your issues let me know,

Immediate Dentures”

What Are Immediate Dentures?
1....They are dentures that are “immediately” placed into the mouth when the last natural
tooth is extracted.

Are “Immediate Dentures” A Good Idea?
1....They are a very good idea. They provide stability in jaw relationships during the
healing process.
2....They cover the extraction sites and provide,if you will, a plastic bandage affect.
3....The likelihood of getting a dry socket is all but removed.
4....The healing period is usually quicker and with less trauma.

What Is The Average Healing Period?
1....The average healing period following extraction’s is between 4 and 6 months.
2....Health problems such as Diabetes can slow the process however.

Is There A follow Up Procedure”?
1....At approximately 2 to 3 weeks following the extraction’s I always recommend that the
Temporary Soft Liner Procedure” be instigated.

What Is The Temporary Soft Liner Procedure?
1....A layer of temporary soft liner is placed inside of the immediate denture. The soft liner
material flows over the inside surface of the denture filling in any place that the gums have
shrunk away do the the healing process.
2....The liner performs three basic functions. It refits the denture. It provides a degree of
comfort. It helps maintain the jaw relationship that was established when the dentures
were created.

How Often Should The Liner Be Placed?
1...The first layer of liner should be placed by the second or third week.
2....Follow up liners should be placed every three to four weeks following the first
placement.
3....Once the basic healing has taken place, 4 to 6 months, the immediate dentures should
be Dental Laboratory Relined.

What Happens If “NO” Follow Up Procedure Is Taken?
1....As the gums heal they shrink. The shrinking allows the dentures to change position .
2....The edges are usually the first areas that begin to dig in and cause sore spots.
3....If the edges are continually cut off to rid sore spots, by the time the gums heal the jaws
will have over closed. The chin and nose will be closer together. The corners of the mouth
will turn down. Facial tissues will no longer be properly supported.....”IF” the dentures are
relined in this position the loss of features will get worse.

"Soft Liner Treatment Series"

This treatment plan is designed to comfort damaged tissue as well as provide a functional fit while the health of the gums are being restored.

Following extraction's the extraction sites begin a healing process. This process will take between five and six months depending on the initial condition of the the gums and teeth prior to extraction's. The more sever the infection at the time of extraction's the longer it can be expected for the tissue to heal following extraction's.

If "Immediate Dentures" were placed following the extraction's you can depend on the fact that they will cease to fit and function within ten days post extraction's. This of course provides the patient with a great deal of discomfort and frustration. The dentures seem to be hard and rough and do not stay in place. As the gums heal they also change shape and that change means that they get smaller. As they get smaller the dentures inside surfaces no longer fit the gums. The dentures become loose and have a great tendency to slip and slid.

At this point the Temporary Soft Liner Treatment Series can provide both comfort and a good margin of fit and function. The Dentist or Denture professional will mix a powder and a liquid together in precise amounts. The mixture will take on the consistency of honey. The mixture is then spread over the inner surface of the denture and placed back in the mouth, the patient being instructed to close their jaws until the teeth fully touch.

After a few minutes the mixture gels into a rubbery like liner. It bonds to the denture surface and molds itself to the contours of the gums. In it's rubbery state it provides a comfort layer between the gums and the hard surface of the denture. Because it was placed in the denture while in a honey like state it flows and molds. After gelling into the rubbery state the patient will find the denture far more comfortable and stable.

As the gums continue to heal and change it will be necessary to resurface the existing Soft Liner with additional layers of the Soft Liner Material to refit the inner surface of the denture. In most cases the patient will need the Liner resurfaced about every three weeks. Once total healing has taken place a reline impression can be taken over the existing liner and the denture sent to a dental laboratory for reline processing. This process will remove the liners and restore the inner surface of the denture back to regular denture plastic. Minor adjustments may be required following the relining, but that is to be expected.

The Soft Liner System is also used to restore damaged gum tissue when a patient has attempted to wear a denture far longer than the dentures or the gums can tolerate.

My dog is a year and a half old. he was just in the hospital a month ago with HGE. his intestines were inflamed causing bloody stool and vomiting. it cost $700 and a overnight stay in the emergency room to get him back to health. I am a college student and that was a pretty penny to shell out. this is something i was told could occur again. Well here we are a month later and he is starting to get diarrhea again.. I cant afford to take him in so i called the vet to find out what i can do at home. its been two days of eating a strict diet and making sure he is getting alot of water but it doesnt seem to healp much. I cant afford another hospital visit let alone do it again in a month or two.. I dont know what to do.. he is still so young so i hate to consider putting him down but i cant afford to keep him healthy. please give me ideas!

From what I was taught in school, Cavour almost accidentally unified Italy. He really just wanted to expant Piedmont, but in turn inspired Italian nationalism and helped unify Italy.

Garibaldi was the driving force behind the ideology of Italian nationalism, and he managed to unify the different nationalist groups to fight against the Austo-Hungarian Empire and get Italy unified (I think it was 1871 when the country was eventually unified???).

In Wales it's studied in school history lessons between the ages of 16 and 18, along with the unification of Germany. I thought it was pretty interesting.

Evolution is a fact of life. Genetics alone proves it is 100% correct. So either God is using evolution like all other natural processes (such as gravity & relativity), or the atheists are right?

Most Christians and Jews are able to understand evolution, so they see how it fits with God's plan for us, but you folks don't seem to get the connection.

Geez i feel embarassed writing about my pathetic life...I don't even know where I'm going with this thing, but does the beginning sound good or just whiny and boring? i don't mind the criticism one bit, I'm wondering if it's ok enough to maybe win a short story contest ( i know its not done but just based on the quality of writing) thanks:

The baristas chocolate brown hair swished over her shoulder as she turned to prepare my coffee I ordered ten minutes ago. I wasn't complaining though. Behind the counter and on the wall was a blown up photo of a beautiful waterfall. I had escaped into it, not feeling serene, but excited, awake, even before I downed a vente sized cup of pure caffine. How I wanted to be there, just forget everything and go. I didn't even know where the place was, Hawaii, Jamaica, but I knew I wanted to get out of California, or just get out in general.

I had been unemployed nearly a year now, and I was starting to think it wasn't the economy's fault, it was mine. It was my fault, my embarassment, and I didn't know what the hell to do about it anymore. Writing was becoming less and less of an escape. Lately I'd just google photos of Italian Villas in Siena, Italy, or snow covered stone cottages set in the heart of Nova Scotia. Anywhere that wasn't here. Anywhere I could vacation to, someday, but for now would have to settle with the day dreams in my mind. That was my problem, I was a dreamer.

my body is having a very hard time surviving life right now. it can barely tolerate any type of food. while i'm being treated for health issues, i'm also on an elimination diet. what if i ate nothing but quinoa or rice and almonds all day every day. nyothing else. what would happen? oh and maybe some egg whites and carrots . but that's it. and i don't mean starving myself one or two handfuls of ten almonds, i mean like eating almonds when im hungry and eating 3 or 4 servings of quinoa and 3 or 4 carrot and maybe 2 egg whites.

Without knowing what health issues you have, it would be very difficult for anyone (even a medical professional) to speculate on the effects of such a narrow diet on your health and weight. It sounds like you do have some serious issues, if it's come down to the situation you're now in. I strongly suggest you ask your doctors.

As for the foods you've mentioned, there would be plenty of protein in that mix, along with healthy amounts of fat, complex carbohydrates and fibre. Plenty of vitamin A in the carrots, and the B vitamins in the others. Calcium in the almonds. Not much in the way of vitamin C on your menu, which is a bit of a worry, as vitamin C is essential for so many bodily functions, not least of which is fighting off illnesses. You'll probably need some good sources of iron and zinc, as well. A spoonful of molasses might help with the iron, and also relieve the monotony of your intended diet.

But please speak to your doctors before you embark on that.

I've recently started volleyball at school and we run about 15 minutes a day but not everyday and I need help. My daily diet consists of meat, rice, chips and mostly water! WATER is the only thing i drink. LITERALLY! I am tired of being fat and I really need help losing weight! I have no idea of a plan to help. Late last July, a woman identified only as “Maria Saint” auditioned for American Idol 10 in New Orleans, and she has blogged the experience. It’s the most-detailed account of the audition process I’ve ever seen, and while most of it consists of specifics about things we’ve heard before, there are some fascinating revelations, from a fake Ryan Seacrest’s exit interviews to the fact that the contestants are coded from the very start of the auditions so producers will know how to treat them: as a great singer, an okay singer, or a bad singer who will be featured for that very reason.

Most readers of my writing and fans of the show, never mind those who just pay close attention to the audition episodes, are aware that the audition process is not at all what it looks like on TV. It spans multiple days and stages, and involves more people screening contestants than just the judges—who weren’t even hired when auditions started last summer. Maria Saint wrote about the start of her experience last summer, but didn’t resume until the auditions started airing, writing, “I was so saddened and discouraged by this entire experience that I was unable to bring myself to think about it until I was forced to do so this week.”

Her account reveals that, after the first audition—on day two, groups of four sing in front of producers on the floor of the stadium or arena that is hosting the cattle call—contestants receive a golden ticket (i.e. piece of paper) that includes the name of the producers who auditioned them, notes about the audition (which camera operators use to identify people to get their stories in the crowd), and codes that tell an auditioner everything they need to know about how well they’ll do in the auditions:

The first mark is a letter, either an N, a K, or a Y. The Y means that you are a good singer, a yes, and will likely make it all the way to the final round if you play your cards right. K I call Keeper, and it is also a mark of a good singer. K’s are not as impressive as Y’s but is good nonetheless, and anything good is good, right? N’s are another story. N’s are no’s and it basically means you are bad. You’re not a bad person and you may not even be a bad singer but in the idol world you are a bad singer to them and that’s what you’re going to be made to be. Take my advice carefully: if you’re an N and you want to see the process and you’re okay with the fact that you may be humiliated and that’s alright with you, then by all means, take the chance-of-a-lifetime experience. You might even be able to change the judges minds later on down the line. But, I promise you, if you are marked as an N, they already have their minds made up about you and it will not change.”

Maria Saint has images of those coded golden tickets, including her own. After detailing the audition process, she reveals that, after being rejected by executive producer Ken Warwick while auditioning on the exact same set the judges will use, “there was an exit interview, just like you’d have if you were actually in the judges round of the show.” But instead of Ryan Seacrest, “you were asked questions by this production person (I called him fake Seacrest) or the camera men, but fake Seacrest was never seen on camera,” and the producers lied and “said it was yet another way to screen test us and see how awesome we looked on camera.”

In other words, the show gathers footage of auditions that are not in front of the judges or Ryan Seacrest but has the ability to edit them to make it look like those people sang in front of the judges (combined with reaction shots from the judges) and then said something to Seacrest, when in fact, none of that happened.

Maria Saint’s account of her New Orleans American Idol audition also details the song that producers had everyone learn later in the process, which is how they construct the montage of people mangling one song. Big surprise that people mangle a song they’ve just learned! Interestingly, she says producers lied about what this was for: “We were told that the reason we were given this song to learn is that if we made it to the actual show and were given one or two days to learn a song choice they would want to be assured that we could do it

I am absolutely not satisfied with my weight. I happen to be the fattest of three, ideal, athletic siblings. All my siblings were definitely on the sports teams, got outstanding grades, possessed the most admired boyfriends, and also was beautiful and slim. Gaining muscle takes the same amount of focus and preparation as
losing weight. Some important facts about gaining muscle:

You can't necessarily gain muscle without gaining some fat as well.
There are no magic foods, powders or pills that will allow you to
gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. Some people can do this
naturally (again, the genes), but most will gain some fat along with
the muscle
Your body is very different from a bodybuilder--trying to gain mass
to look like them is not the best idea. They have different muscle
fibers than you and some may even be getting a little help from
illegal substances.
If you're a teenager, you'll have a hard time changing your body
dramatically. It's changing constantly and it will change even more as
the years pass.
Gaining weight requires eating more and lifting more
Gaining muscle requires that you eat more calories than you burn. For
those with high metabolisms, that may seem impossible, but if you try
a few of these tricks, you'll find that adding calories to your day is
easier than you think:

Choose calorie-rich foods like granola, bagels, biscuits, avocados,
olives, corn, meat, nuts, peanut butter, milk, yogurt and cheese.
Add extra calories to your meals by using milk instead of water for
soups, sauces and hot cereals.
Sprinkle powdered milk into casseroles.
Add calorie-rich foods (like avocado, cheese and dressing) to
sandwiches and salads
Mix beans, meat or cheese into pasta or side dishes
Snack on yogurt, shakes, crackers and dip
Keep a food diary for a week or so to get an idea of what you're
eating and where you can add more calories
The trick is to add calories without adding too much saturated fat.

days of cardio a week to keep your heart in shape

Well, i'm going into 9th grade next year, and I kind of want to do tennis. I've barely played it before, but I've always thought it was fun. I have pretty much no experience, but heres my plan. I want to join a tennis camp over the summer, plus theres a tennis court near my house where I could practice. Tennis starts in fall, so that gives me enough time to get in shape. I'm thin already, I just need to get a little more athletic, do some jogging and stuff. Do you think I should go for it, or try something else? How hard is it? I'm not a very sporty person, I like sports, but I am generally not good at them. I'm decent at volleyball though :) Any tips for starting tennis?

It takes time to become a strong player, measured in *years.* Hard work, enthusiasm, and good coaching make a big difference. Talent is great, but it's not enough by itself. In addition to your volleyball, if you've had some basketball and/or softball/ baseball in PE or elsewhere, that will help. Volleyball is just as good as any other sport, so you can learn tennis, too, as long as you have a good attitude and good teachers and coaches.

The fastest way to improve is to take lessons. If your folks will pay for you to take private lessons, that is the best way to get into it and learn good habits and other concepts you need to know. Group lessons are always very special, so don't ignore them, as they teach you things you might not pick up in a private lesson. I recommend waiting a couple of years before you play your first "serious" tournament, where rankings are on the line. You can still play practice sets or practice matches, and that's good, but wait until your strokes are thoroughly learned in your head and you also know how to use them pretty well. A very famous coach from the Spartak Academy in Russia said that it's a big mistake to play tournaments before your technique is thoroughly learned. I think she's right.

Far more important than winning is your **sportsmanship.**
IMHO, screaming at contact with the ball is ugly gamesmanship, and should have been prohibited entirely about 20 years ago.

Why is sportsmanship so important? Because if you use gamesmanship, cheating, intimidation, etc to win a match, it's sort of like stealing. Don't expect people to forget what you did, because they won't.

To avoid these problems, read: **"The Code."** It tells you how to deport yourself in matches that have no officials. If you always play by The Code, you will stay out of trouble and be able to make friends with other players, coaches, etc who also value good sportsmanship :-) Unfortunately, there are some people who couldn't care less about it. It's a mixed bag, so to speak; nobody's perfect in this department!

Dear host family,

First of all I want to thank you for reading my letter in which I want to introduce myself and tell you something about my family, friends, hobbies and everyday life. Also I want to thank you for your hospitality and that you giving me a home in the USA for 10 months. It would be very great to spend one year of my live as a member of your family. I’m so excited to get to know a new culture and new people and I'm truly grateful that I get this chance by you. I hope this letter will help you getting a first impression and get to know the reasons why I want to go to America.

Also, in my free-time I like reading, to spend time with my family and friends, to bake, painting and photography; to go outside taking pictures with my camera.
Also I love travelling; it is my all-time favourite activity. When I was still a small child, I traveled with my parents across Europe. We visited so many cities; like Venice in Italy, Lisbon in Portugal, Prague in Czechia and so on. In the last years we were among the pyramids of Giza in Cairo and hike in the canyons of Spain. My favorite place to visit is Vienna. Last holidays I saw the “Vienna Prater”; it is a big theme park. One of my goals in life is to travel all over the world!
Also in my school I have done a lot of things. I was at the school choir and in the “wind-surfing project group”. Once a week after school I’m a mentor and look after kids, play with them and help them by the homework.

It was always my dream to go one year in the USA; because on the one side I would like to make new experiences, get to know new people , get better language skills and also it bring better chances for your professional path. Of the other side I like to will independent and confident, I want to learn more over your life, your country and your culture in America, quasi the “American way of life”. Another reason for my stay abroad is your school-system. It is very different from ours, and I like to choose between many different subjects. Also, I would like to get to know your everyday life and your celebrations, like Thanksgiving, Halloween or the St. Patrick’s Day.
Now I would like to tell you something about my vision of the future. After my year abroad I will finish my school. In other words at first I will make my A-Level and later I would like to study. If I’m older, I will travel around the world and I will visit as many countries as I can not even count. Maybe, I make also a year as au pair girl or so. Well wait and see what happens.

I have a free consult with a personal trainer as part of my new gym membership and I want to be prepared with some questions so I can get as much useful information as I can get :) The past year or so I've become a health nut, strict vegetarian so I do know how to eat a properly balanced diet. I've lost about 40 pounds/5 sizes in the past few years so now I'm mostly looking to start working out again to get in shape and tone my body. I want to focus on my core and my back because I have a lot of back problems most likely due to lack of strength. So what sort of things should I make sure I ask about during my session?

I went through the same situation you mentioned. I too am a vegetarian and went on a strong period where I was into working out with a trainer 4-5 times a week and really managing my diet. From an exercise standpoint the trainer knows best. Just make sure you do amble stretching and warm down after each workout. As for the food that was a little more tricky. want the other person in the this thread pointed out about protein is correct. You don't want to take too much soy also. There are lots of good quality vegetarian protein sources you might want to consider. Rice, hemp and whey (if you do dairy though it can get you bloated over time). Mixing up the different sources are good. Also consider taking a coenzyme q10 and b12 supplement to help with energy. Also diet is very important in terms of eating good quality foods (stay away from processed foods). Hope this helps I will post a link to some vegetarian protein sources I mentioned along with the b12 and coenzymes.

Something else you might want to ask your trainer to do is come up with a diet plan which includes meal options that have the right amounts of protiens, carbs, ect along with your smaller snacks all spread out through out the day (I think you need to be be eating something every 3 or so hours to keep your metabolism going). If you do some online search for vegetarian fitness tips you might be able to get some more insights. Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

Pill Overdose Suicide Question? Please Help Me.?

If you don't want to read all of this its fine, just skip to the bottom and the main question is there. My best friend of over 8 years tried to overdose on three different types of pills last night. We're both 14, so she's pretty young. She had sex with her asshole boyfriend and her mom found out because she thought she was pregnant so she had to tell her mom. She wasn't pregnant, but her mom now knew she had sex with him and she didn't want her family to think she was a whore so she had been contemplating suicide. Last night at 9:42pm she called me acting as if she were high or drunk. I asked her what she had taken or done, and she told me she had swallowed 3 different types of pills, however I do not remember the exact names. She said her hands went numb, her stomach was in a lot of pain, and even though her lights were on, everything went dark and she could only see certain objects.
She couldn't remember certain things in our conversation, and wasn't thinking straight. I took advantage of this and got her address.
I told her I was going to call 911, but she said "No, you don't have my address." Even though I already had it. I told her to throw up the pills numerous amounts of time but she didn't want to as she wanted to die and did not have a gag reflex. She kept telling me that she was going to sleep, but I know this is a sleep you don't wake up from. I kept her up for as long as I could when finally after she had told me numerous times that she wanted to die, I hung up.
I wasn't the only one she had called last night, she had also called about 3 or 4 other friends, however they did not make the slightest effort to get her help. When she said she was going to go, they let her. I didn't let her hang up under any circumstance.
Finally, at 9:45, the time we hung up, I dialed 911. After explaining my situation, I was conferenced in with the 911 operator and her town's police department.
After the 911 operator explained most of what happened, he hung up, and her town's police officer turned his attention to me asking me for the details. I didn't have them, she tried to tell me the pill names but she slurred her words. The officer said this was fine and I heard the most relieving words I had ever heard in my life, "We are sending officers and paramedics to your friends location right now. Everything will be ok, thank you very much for reporting this."
The police arrived at her house within minutes.
I went to bed that night extremley nervous and upset. Because of spring break, I escaped school at 11:15, and the minute I arrived on the bus, I got the hospital's number and called. I had to know if she has gotten in to that hospital. After 5 minutes of talking on the phone with the front desk they finally hooked me up with her room's phone. I wouldn't hang up the phone until I had reached her, which took about 3 minutes, an eternity to me.
Her mom picked up the phone, her voice sounded tired and melancholy. She told me my friend was asleep and that the pill overdose was just a mistake. She had taken too much of her mono medication and would be going home today.
How she convinced the doctors and her mother that the overdose was a mistake is a mystery to me. In my 911 emergency call I had clearly stated after the operator asked me for my emergency, "My friend just tried to OD on pills." Clearly a suicide attempt. I want to help her, I know she needs therapy and professional help, but how do I make sure she gets it? As of right now people believe it was a mistake, which it most certainly was not. What do I do and how can I help her? I do not want her trying this again, because chances are, since she knows I would call the police and she'd be successful this time and kill herself without calling me.

Wow, you are a brave and well spoken young lady. Good for you. There are a lot of posters of your age on here who do not know basic sentence structure.

Good job being a good friend. You were correct to dial 911 and check on her. You are also correct that she tried to commit suicide. No question about that.

Her mother needs to get her into therapy, outpatient or even better, inpatient therapy for suicidal ideation. This can be assisted through her doctor's office or through the ER. If she is actively suicidal, saying she has thoughts, plans or ideas to commit suicide, going to the ER and saying that she is doing these things will get her an automatic admission for psych.

The fact that it is being stated it was a mistake sounds like denial to me. This is often what happens. It is too painful for family to deal with the reality of the situation, so they deny it.

If you feel there is a real danger to your friend's life and her family is not doing their job, this is illegal. You may need to get another adult involved. If your school has a police officer liaison or a good counseling department, they will probably have resources and ideas to assist you. If you know that your friend has an aunt or uncle that is caring, you could also contact them.

This isn't an easy situation. Too many young men and women commit suicide because being a teenager is difficult. She shouldn't be having sex for 1. She is too young and obviously not able to handle the emotional distress and risks that go with it. She isn't making good choices for herself and is doing dangerous things. She will end up dead if not promptly assisted.

Milano, like any other big city has both cheap and expensive supermarkets and restaurants. In most normal trattorias or pizzerias you can eat for about 15 euros. Try not to get ripped off when getting coffee at a bar, especially in the center you can find many tourist traps which sell an espresso for 2-4 euros, while in a normal place, the most you pay is 1 euro. Supermarket prices are normal compared to the rest of Europe, if you want to eat cheap, the best would be to make pasta everyday!!!

hey, I found this great website called saving dinner, they also sell a series of books. They have an entire weeks menu planned out for you, including the shopping list to make it all simpler. They have several kinds like low carb, or vegetarian, or body clutter (weight loss), or even a new one that is 22 entire meals that you make in one day (actually only takes about 2 hours) and freeze to have enough meals to serve for the weeknights for an entire month! They are designed by a nutritionist, so they are well balanced and healthy, but they also taste delicious. Shopping with the lists save me a fortune on my grocery bill! If you do this you will not have to figure out what is healthy, and they also offer suggestions on each menu to tell you how to convert to kosher, or substituting different meats or veggies for things you don't prefer. Also, at least once a week is a recipe using a slow cooker to make life even simpler! Every menu comes with clear complete recipes for each meal, and an explanation for any ingredients you might be unfamiliar with! I love this, since there is a menu, my husband and daughter never ask me what's for dinner anymore, they just look at the menu stuck to the fridge! Ok, so I'm a basketball player, and I'm somewhat athletic. I can shoot the ball and make an easy lay-up, but I can't get rebounds or jump high enough to block a shot. I made my school's basketball team, and I'm pretty sure I was one of the lowest vertical jumpers. Could anyone give me tips on how to get a higher vertical jump? I excersize regularly in long distance and sprints, but don't do weight lifting, and I also have a healthy diet. Any tips would be great. Thanks.
